The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service was established in 1975 as a volunteer part time beach patrol in the Newcastle area. Today the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service includes four helicopters operating across the Hunter, New England – North West, Central Coast and Mid North Coast regions. The Service undertakes more than 1400 missions each year. It operates 24 hours a day every day of the year. The Helicopter attends missions that it is tasked to by the emergency services of NSW. On board the Rescue Helicopters is a crew of highly trained and skilled paramedics and medical staff, pilots, air and rescue crew members.  The Service operates from purpose-built bases in Tamworth and Broadmeadow in Newcastle. No one has ever paid to be assisted by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. That is because their fellow citizens and the NSW Government through NSW Health and the Ambulance Service of NSW provide the funds that ensure the rescue helicopters are there when and where they are needed. St John Ambulance Australia (NSW) is a self-funded, charitable organisation committed to first aid. Whether it is training people in first aid or delivering first aid and health services at community and sporting events, we are passionate about saving lives. In Australia for more than 125 years, the St John of today is a modern organisation where the practice of first aid by our 3,500 volunteers in NSW alone make our courses and kits the most tested in the market. St John also has wider community services which involves helping young children with reading in schools, assisting the NSW Health Department with its immunisation program in schools and providing essential eye health services to areas of remote and rural NSW.

Ronald McDonald House® Tamworth is one of 14 Houses in Australia, dedicated to providing a home away from home for thousands of families each year. When a child is seriously ill and the care they need is a long way from home, we provide somewhere to stay close by, allowing the family to remain together.
As you probably know yourself, when you are ill, having those that love you by your side, a shoulder to cry on, or a kiss-goodnight when you’re stuck in hospital can make all the difference. Our House is an ideal place for families to be together, offering the comforts of home during one of the most critical times in their lives.
Ronald McDonald House® Tamworth is run by a small team of professional, caring staff backed up by friendly dedicated volunteers who help out with practical tasks and keep everything running smoothly. Our House is a vital support service for so many families in need, offering warmth and inspiration and allowing friendships to be formed as families share a similarly challenging journey. The House is a place where everyone understands the importance of small ‘wins’ and the celebrations that come with these along with the empathy and outpouring of love when facing immense sadness in their lives.

To date we have assisted almost 900 families through what is often the toughest times of their lives and with the support of the community we will continue to help so many more children and families in need.

SIDS and Kids is dedicated to saving the lives of babies and children during pregnancy, birth, infancy and childhood and supporting bereaved families.

SIDS and Kids Safe Sleeping is an evidence-based health promotion campaign that, since its inception in the early 1990s, has reduced the incidence of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) by 80%, saving more than 7500 babies’ lives.

The campaign has been developed in conjunction with researchers from Australasia and internationally and provides information about the evidence around SIDS risk reduction and fatal sleeping accidents.

The six ways to sleep a baby safely are:

1. Sleep baby on the back from birth, not on the tummy or side
2. Sleep baby with head and face uncovered
3. Keep baby smoke free before birth and after
4. Provide a safe sleeping environment night and day
5. Sleep baby in their own safe sleeping place in the same room as an adult care-giver for the first six to twelve months
6. Breastfeed baby if you can

The Safe Sleeping campaign was developed for health professionals, childcare workers, new and expectant mothers, parents and anyone who cares for babies and infants.
